Divert The Ships
Brief
The brief for this project was to create a playable protype which was focused around one main mechanic and used 3 design pillars that I could picked.
What I Made
The Idea I Settled on was a tower defense game where the player has to listen to incoming audio and use a list of rules to check if the incoming ship was a friendly or enemy. I also wanted to practice my 3D art so i have made all the art assets for the game.
Feedback
For this project I got a 2:1 grade and got a lot of good feedback particulary on how to improve on teaching players mechanics in the game and being able to clearly demonstrate what to do to the player.

My Process
Game Idea
The idea for this game was to develop both my art and programming skills. I decided to make a games inspired my papers please. The basic premise of the game was to listen to incoming codes from ships and decide wether or not they should be allowed to dock.
What Went Well
I started the project by making an initial prototype with the main ship moving mechanic. This was relativley easy as I was using Unreals Ai move to system. I also created the first person movment as well and some of the assets.
As the project progressed I programmed the health system into the game as well as added a water system and build up more of the game play area.
I was able to create a really cool intro cinematic that player on game start. As well as learning proper techniques for optimization and visual effects such as rain. I also learned how to implement proper audio.
What Didnt Go As Well
There were a few main issues with the game. Firstly I ran out of time for the project. This was mainly because halfway through the project the main ship divert system broke and it took about 5 weeks to fix.
The other main issue was that the game was more of a tech demo rather than anm actual game. I did not include enough tutorialisation for it to be easily understood.
What I Learnt
The main things that I learnt from this project were.
To not overscope a project to ensure I can produce a much more polished game. As well as making sure that the main mechanics work early on and I build the game from the ground up.
Software And Hardware Used
For this game I used UE5.4 as well as Blender for the assets. And an Ai text to speech program for the voices in the game.
